You've timed hundreds of solves at home. On Friday, 6 November, you can make them count.

Cubiculus Dhaka 2026 is a one-day WCA competition at Mohammadpur Govt. College. Every solve there is official. Your results go on the World Cube Association's records under your name, you get a WCA ID, and you appear in the Bangladesh rankings.

CubeNation is the competition's technical partner, and every competitor will get a ৳100 voucher from us. If you've been wondering whether to sign up, this post is for you.

📅
Friday, 6 November at Mohammadpur Govt. College, Dhaka
Events: 3x3, 3x3 One-Handed, Pyraminx, 5x5 and Megaminx
Fee: ৳700, or ৳714 with the bKash charge, for any number of events
Registration closes: Saturday, 31 October, at 11:59 PM
Places left: 22 of 70, as of 25 October

Are you fast enough? Probably, yes.

If you can solve a 3x3 in under five minutes, you're fast enough. There's no cutoff in 3x3, so everyone gets all five solves, and your official result is the average of the middle three.

Most people at a competition aren't there to win. They're there to beat their own best and to spend a day with people who love cubing as much as they do. Of the 48 people registered so far, 11 have never competed before, so you won't be the only newcomer in the room.

Your first official times will probably be slower than your times at home. That happens to nearly everyone, because of nerves and the new setting, and nobody will think less of you for it. Whatever you get on the day simply becomes the time to beat at your next competition.

The other four events have a cutoff to keep the day on schedule:

  • Pyraminx and One-Handed: get one of your first two solves under 1 minute and you go on to do all five.
  • 5x5 and Megaminx: get one of your first two solves under 2 minutes.

If you miss a cutoff, your first two solves still count as an official result. So if you're not sure you can make it, enter anyway.

How to register

There are two parts to registering: signing up on the WCA website and paying the fee. You need to do both, in this order.

  1. Create a WCA account at worldcubeassociation.org if you don't already have one. Use your real name and date of birth, exactly as they appear on your ID.
  2. Register for the competition. Open the Cubiculus Dhaka 2026 page, choose your events and submit the form.
  3. Pay ৳714 by bKash. That's the ৳700 fee plus the 2% bKash charge. Use Send Money to the number listed under Payment Procedure on the competition page.
  4. Send your TrxID. Text your name, your phone number and the bKash TrxID to the same number, by SMS or WhatsApp.
  5. Check the competitor list. Once your name appears there, your place is confirmed.
⚠️
Common mistakes: paying before registering on the WCA website, sending ৳700 instead of ৳714, and forgetting to text the TrxID. Any of these can keep your name off the list.

If something comes up and you can't make it, cancel before 1 November and you'll get 80% of your fee back.

Which cube to bring

You compete with your own puzzles, and the WCA Delegate can check them before you start. Most cubes people already own are fine, but there are a few things the rules don't allow.

Allowed:

  • Magnetic and MagLev cubes
  • Stickerless cubes
  • Stickered cubes, as long as no stickers are peeling or missing
  • One logo, on a centre piece

Not allowed:

  • Smart or Bluetooth cubes. Any puzzle with electronics in it is banned.
  • Cubes with a missing centre cap, or with a cracked or marked piece
  • Clear or see-through cubes
  • A stickerless cube with stickers added to repair it

Cheap unbranded cubes are allowed, but we'd avoid them for a competition. They tend to lock up and pop, and a pop in the middle of a solve can easily cost you the attempt.

If you need a cube

If you're buying, order in the next few days so you have time to get used to it. A cube you've never practised with isn't ideal for your first official solves. These are the ones we'd recommend for each event.

Meilong 3x3 M V2 · ৳499

For 3x3 on a budget. It's magnetic and stickerless, so it stays stable and has no stickers to peel. 56 mm, 72 g.

YuXin Little Magic Pyraminx M · ৳650

For Pyraminx. A magnetic Pyraminx that turns smoothly and is easy to control, which makes it a sensible first one.

QiYi Warrior 5x5 M · ৳1,049

For 5x5. A light, magnetic 5x5 at a fair price. The magnets keep it stable, which matters a lot on a big cube.

QiYi QiHeng S2 Megaminx · ৳799

For Megaminx. A smooth, stickerless Megaminx at a beginner's price. It isn't magnetic, but it's more than good enough for your first official average.

What happens on the day

Arrive by 8:00 AM to check in. At 8:30 there's a short tutorial for new competitors that covers everything below, so you don't need to memorise any of it.

Competitors are split into groups, and each event is called one group at a time. When your group is called:

  • You hand in your cube to be scrambled, and a judge brings it to your table covered.
  • You get 15 seconds to look at the cube before you start. You can pick it up, but you can't turn it.
  • You start and stop the timer with both hands flat on the pads. Let go of the cube before you stop the timer.
  • The judge writes your time on your scorecard, and you check it and sign it.

Once your group has finished, you'll usually be asked to judge another group. Everyone helps out at WCA competitions, and the tutorial shows you how to do it.

Remember to bring an ID that shows your date of birth, because new competitors need one at check-in. The day ends with the awards at around 5:00 PM.

🎁
A ৳100 voucher for every competitor. Everyone who competes will get a ৳100 CubeNation voucher to use on any order of ৳500 or more. We'll share how to claim it closer to the day.

A note for parents

Cubing competitions are friendly, well-run events, and most of the competitors are school and college students. Parents and friends can come in for free and stay for the whole day. If your child is under 18, they need your permission to compete.

The fee covers a full day of official competition. The results are recorded by the World Cube Association, the body that runs speedcubing competitions around the world, and they stay on your child's record permanently.

Questions people often ask

What should I bring?

Your ID with your date of birth, every puzzle you've registered for, and a spare 3x3 if you have one. Bring water and a snack too. Timers and mats are provided. Keep your cubes in a bag or case with your name on it so they don't get mixed up with anyone else's.

What are the timings?

Check-in is at 8:00 AM, and the tutorial for new competitors starts at 8:30. The first event begins at 9:00, there's a lunch and prayer break from 1:15 to 2:30 PM, and the awards are at 5:00 PM.

Timings can shift a little on the day, so check the full schedule on the WCA page.

What happens if I take too long to inspect?

If you start between 15 and 17 seconds, you get a 2-second penalty. After 17 seconds, the solve doesn't count. The judge calls out 8 and 12 seconds so you always know how long you have left.

Do I have to judge?

Yes, everyone is expected to help, usually by judging a group after their own. The tutorial in the morning shows you exactly what to do, and it's one of the best ways to learn the rules.

When do I get my WCA ID?

After the competition. Results are usually published within a few days to a week, and you'll then get an email with your WCA ID.

What if all 70 places fill up?

You'll go on a waiting list in the order you paid. If someone cancels before registration closes, the next person on the list gets their place. If you don't get one, you'll get a full refund after the competition.

Can I just pay on the day?

Only if places are still available, and it costs ৳800. With 22 places left, registering online now is much safer.

Why we're supporting Cubiculus

When we looked at competitions in Bangladesh last year, we found that around 20,000 people here can solve a cube, but only about 670 have ever competed. We'd like to close that gap. Supporting competitions like this one is a simple way to help more cubers get their first official time.

Good luck to everyone competing on 6 November. We'll see you there.
